UW has joined Math Alliance as a Partner Institution. This effort, which involves 12 programs on campus, was led by the Departments of Biostatistics, Statistics, Mathematics, and Applied Mathematics.

Mike Hellstern, a second-year doctoral student, is the recipient of the 2021 Donovan J. Thompson Award.

With funding from the NIH’s National Institute on Aging, the UW center began collecting data from another set of centers housed in hospitals and clinics across the country. These centers, Alzheimer’s Disease Research Centers(ADRCs), have now grown in number to 35 — including the ADRC at UW Medicine. Biostatistics faculty members Ellen Wijsman and Ali Shojaie serve as lead and co-investigator, respectively, of the ADRC Data Management and Statistics Core.

Practical experience is an essential part of the UW Biostatistics student experience and summer internships are one way students gain insight into work and research outside academia.
