What's different about UW Biostatistics?

We're Invested in You

Grow and Explore Where You Can Make a Difference

Our goal is to mentor you to become a ground-breaking thinker and innovator in the field. You'll be challenged with rigorous academic work, but our faculty and staff also know you are transitioning from being a student to a practitioner. We give you time and encouragement to explore and grow your interests. You'll expand how you think about the field as well as how you study, ask questions, and think about yourself and your work.

Community

We value the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our students, faculty, and staff and see them as strengthening our department. There's strong camaraderie among our students. Senior students mentor junior and first year students. Students organize exam study sessions, trivia nights, go on impromptu road trips, and play on intramural sports teams. The department sponsors pizza parties, student outings, and an annual summer department picnic. Students also serve on department committees focusing on curriculum, diversity, alumni relations, and student/faculty relations.
