Tell us about yourself including your nationality, ethnicity, and culture.

I'm from China, a small southern city known as the “Land of Fish and Rice” for its abundant resources. My culture has taught me the importance of appreciating life’s small joys.

How did you come to be associated with the Department of Biostatistics?

I'm now pursuing a master's degree at department of Biostatistics where I’m passionate about applying statistical methods to solve real-world problems in health and medicine.

Tell us something we’d be surprised to know about?  Hidden talent? Superpower?

I consider myself a fairly ordinary person, but when it comes to hidden talents, I’d have to say singing. While studying in the UK, I worked as a singer in a bar. Recently, I placed third in a singing competition at UW. Singing brings me a lot of joy, and it’s a way for me to connect with people in unexpected ways. It’s a special part of who I am that not many people know about.

What motivates you?

Music has always been a source of motivation for me. It allows me to express emotions I might struggle to articulate and gives me a sense of balance when life feels chaotic. Whether I’m singing or simply listening to my favorite tracks, music helps me reset and refocus.

Who/what has inspired you the most and why?

My greatest inspiration comes from the challenges I’ve faced while studying abroad. Moving to a new country, experiencing cultural differences, and navigating personal struggles taught me the importance of resilience. These experiences have made me stronger and more determined to pursue meaningful work. I’ve also drawn inspiration from my own personal growth—overcoming difficulties has shown me that I have the power to rebuild myself and shape my future. This has driven me to apply my studies in biostatistics to make a real difference in public health, contributing to research that can help improve lives

What three words would you use to describe yourself?

Brave, passionate and independent.
