UW Biostatistics will welcome a diverse line-up of established and emerging voices at its first Biostatistics Colloquium in early November. Participants will hear from speakers and presenters as they explore how the field of biostatistics is changing and what's engaging the next generation of investigators. The day will include senior student research presentations, a networking lunch and poster session, and talks from local investigators, alumni, and faculty.
“We expect the event to showcase the exciting work of our students and spark connections across fields – academic, non-profit, government, and industry,” says Lurdes Inoue, biostatistics graduate program director.

Among the alumni presenters is Peter Gilbert, director of Biostatistics, Bioinformatics and Epidemiology at Fred Hutch’s Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division and research professor of biostatistics, who will present information regarding his team’s new approach on Dengue vaccine efficacy. Also presenting is UW Biostat grad Jennifer Clark Nelson, director of the Biostatistics Unit at Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute, who will talk about her work on developing methods to quantify post-market safety and effectiveness for vaccines and drugs using electronic health record data from large health care systems.
The event will take place November 8, 2018, at the University of Washington Seattle Campus from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will be open to invited participants and guests..
