Students graduating from the University of Washington Department of Biostatistics Master of Science Capstone Program in 2023 were honored in a ceremony held March 17 in the Hans Rosling Center for Population Health.
The ceremony was held in-person and streamed to invited guests, which included families, friends, advisors, classmates, and program faculty and staff.
Lurdes Inoue, department chair and professor of biostatistics opened the celebration.
“We are very proud of the graduating students, and wish them all the best on this first step of their trajectory, and encourage them to maintain the connections they have forged here at UW.“
Noah Simon, the MS Capstone Program director and associate professor of biostatistics, addressed the cohort of graduating students and praised the students for their hard work, noting that it has prepared them to do a lot of different things such as work in biomedicine, public health, global health, genomics, genetics, environmental health, social science, tech, or policy work.
“You’re all headed in many different directions,” Simon said in his address, “and my words of wisdom are to stay open to new opportunities. The world is an increasingly wild place, and the need for quantitative people is ever growing. Be bold and ambitious, and prioritize things that you think are important, energizing, and meaningful, and continue to build and nurture meaningful connections with people. As we enter this era where data are more easily collected, more easily collated, and there’s a lot of interest in doing something with it, you guys are going to be the leaders.”
